Publications and Work in Progress
The first major publication of the EBMP was Richard
Salomon’s Ancient Buddhist Scrolls from Gandhāra: The
British Library Kharoṣṭhī Fragments, jointly published
by the British Library and University of Washington Press in
1999. This book consists of a survey, catalogue, preliminary
analysis and interpretation of the entire collection. It
includes several representative text and translation
samples.
Further EBMP publications are being issued as volumes in a series entitled Gandhāran Buddhist Texts (GBT), being published by the University of Washington Press. This series consists of detailed studies of individuals texts in the British Library collection. The following volumes have already been published or are in progress:
- GBT 1: Richard Salomon, A Gāndhārī Version of the Rhinoceros Sutra: British Library Kharoṣṭhī Fragment 5B. Published, October 2000.
- GBT 2: Mark Allon, Three Gāndhārī Ekottarikāgama-Type Sūtras: British Library Kharoṣṭhī Fragments 12 and 14. Published, November 2001.

Theses and Dissertations
- Andrew Glass, “ A Preliminary Study of Kharoṣṭhī Manuscript Paleography.” M.A. thesis. Department of Asian Languages and Literature, University of Washington. 2000.
- Andrew Glass, “ Connected discourses in Gandhāra: a study, edition, and translation of four Saṃyuktāgama‐type sūtras from the Senior Collection.” Ph.D. dissertation. Department of Asian Languages and Literature, University of Washington. 2006.
Future EBMP publications will include a large number of further text editions, as well as analytic studies of the materials in the British Library and related collections from the points of view of the history of Buddhism, linguistic, philological and paleographic studies.
Studies of materials from the other collections of similar manuscript materials are also being carried out under the auspices of the EBMP. Two such publications have already been finished:
- Richard Salomon. 1998. “Kharoṣṭhī Manuscript Fragments in the Pelliot Collection, Bibliotheque Nationale de France.” Bulletin d’études indiennes 16: 123–60.
- Mark Allon and Richard Salomon. 2000. “Fragments of a Gāndhārī Version of the Mahāparinirvāṇa‐sūtra in the Schøyen Collection.” In Jens Braarvig, ed., Manuscripts in the Schøyen Collection I, Buddhist Manuscripts 1. Oslo: Hermes Publishing: 243–73.
Also planned for a future volume of GBT is a catalogue and sample edition of the Senior collection of Gāndhārī scrolls, which is similar in type, size and antiquity to the British Library collection. This is being prepared by Mark Allon. This too will be followed by individual text editions of scrolls from the Senior collection, the first of which will appear as GBT 4.
